JKRTC workers without wages for 5 months, stage protest

SRINAGAR/ JAMMU, Jan 4: The employees of Jammu and Kashmir Road Transport Corporation (JKRTC) today staged strong protest demonstration in Srinagar and Jammu despite snow and rain and strongly projected their issues.
The protesting employees were chanting slogans in support of their demands and warned the Government and management of JKRTC that if the issues of employees were not resolved, then they would intensify their struggle. Employees also warned that if issues were not resolved in a week’s time the workers would come out on the roads and resort to Chakka Jam strike as well and for this Government and Management of the Corporation will be responsible.
In Srinagar, the ‘protest was led by PMD president, Muhammad Sayed and in Jammu, the provincial president of the SRTC Workers’ Union, Param Jeet Singh. Protesting employees urged the UT Government not to delay in addressing the legitimate demands of the RTC workers as it is no longer possible for the employees to tolerate the oppression. The rights of the people are being violated by keeping them without salaries from last five months.
The agitating employees are demanding release of five (5) months salary; regularization of consolidated employees, release of post retiral benefits in favour of retired employees, release of due 56% DA, implementation of SRO-43, introduction of passengers fine under SRO-357 besides implementation of 7th Pay Commission report.
