JAMMU, May 14: J&K National Panthers Party (JKNPP) submitted a memorandum to Union Defence Minister (DM) seeking early remittance of rent arrears for the aggrieved farmers of District Udhampur.
The memorandum was submitted by Balwant Singh Mankotia, State president, JKNPP accompanied by Parshotam Singh Parihar, State secretary PTU and Anil Rakwal, Block president, JKNPP, through the hands of Additional Commissioner, Rehana Watal seeking remittance of pending rent dues for the aggrieved farmers of District Udhampur whose lands have been acquired on requisition basis by the Armed Forces.
Mankotia brought to the notice of the Additional Commissioner that several kanals of land which belonged to the farmers of various villages in Udhampur District like Jib, Ghari, Rehambal, Sattani, Round, Rount, Samble, Jakhar, Sui, Badali, Meghani Padanoo, Nagallian, Bashora, Sansoo and Omara has been acquired by the Armed Forces on requisition basis since 1960. He maintained that the farmers have not been paid the monthly rent against their acquired land for the last two years.
In the memorandum, Mankotia exhorted the Defence Minister to facilitate the permanent acquirement of the lands of the farmers by the Armed Forces once and for all so that they could be paid adequate compensation for their living.  He further submitted in the memorandum that earlier the local kith and kin of the local farmers were recruited against the posts pertaining to the allied departments in the Armed Forces like labourers, peon, class-IV employees in FOD, MES etc but of late they are being denied the employment opportunity due to the prevalent malpractices of corruption, nepotism and favoritism in these departments.
The JKNPP chief appealed the Defence Minister to personally intervene into the matter for curbing such malpractices and for early remittance of the pending dues in favour of the farmers.
