JAMMU : Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) member, Syed Mohammad Rafiq Shah, was today marshaled out of the Legislative Council after he created ruckus in the House over alleged discrimination with Urdu, the official language of the state.
As soon as the House assembled here today, Shah pointed out to a news report published in an Urdu daily, which said that an official in Gandoh area of district Doda had refused to place sign boards in Urdu and had misbehaved with the people over the issue.
Shah said that it was in violation with the law, as Urdu is the official language of the state and demanded that the Question Hour be suspended and half-an-hour discussion be held over the issue.
Chairman Amrit Malhotra, however, did not pay much attention towards his demands and insisted upon the Question Hour.
The JKNPP legislator, meanwhile, walked to the Well of the House, handed the copy of the newspaper to Malhotra and continued his demand for discussion saying that it was an important issue and needs to be addressed.
The Chairman said that he has already given directions for constitution of a committee, headed by Chief Secretary, to look into the reasons behind the neglect of Urdu language. (AGENCIES)
