SRINAGAR, Oct 10: In a powerful initiative to raise awareness against drug abuse, the Jammu & Kashmir Nationalist People’s Front (JKNPF) will organize a Mega Drug Awareness Rally tomorrow at 11 am, starting from Lal Chowk to downtown Srinagar. The rally aims to engage the public in a campaign for a drug-free Jammu & Kashmir.
The event will feature a grand display of unity, with participants on bikes, in cars and on foot, carrying Indian flags, banners and placards bearing impactful anti-drug messages. The rally is free and open to all, encouraging participation from students, families, local leaders and businesses.
JKNPF spokesperson said, “This rally is a key part of our ongoing campaign against drug addiction, which is threatening the future of our youth.” JKNPF Working President Jasif Khan urged the authorities to focus on the real culprits of the drug trade. “In many cases, those caught with small quantities are victims of circumstance, while the masterminds go unpunished. Justice must be served fairly,” he said.
The rally is being held under the guidance of Sanjay Kumar, JKNPF founder and chief patron, who has been vocal about the issue through various grassroots efforts, including a Padyatra across Kashmir. He highlighted that in nearly 80% of drug-related cases, victims are treated as criminals.
JKNPF reiterated its commitment to working with authorities for a more nuanced, rehabilitation-focused approach to tackle substance abuse while dismantling the organized drug networks that fuel the crisis.
