JKNM reiterates twin city demand, rejects settlement in clusters

JAMMU, Aug 2: Terming the State Government’s proposal for rehabilitation in clusters, a retrograde, negative and a design to neutralize the essence of the ethnic religious minority of Kashmiri Pandits back in Valley, Jammu Kashmir Nationalist Movement (JKNM) has categorically rejected such a formula as the module is prone to foul and in fact is worst than present status in exile.
In a statement issued here, today the JKNM said that understanding the magnitude of this trap theory, the organization has launched a campaign to reach out to the displaced Pandit community members for awareness, convergence and broader consensus on the core issue of restitution.
The JKNM has sought full cooperation of the community at this hour saying the community is at the cross roads of history, where its reconnect to its roots is a naturally metaphysical urge.
It said the return, restitution and retention is a vital and core issue for the entire displaced community so urgent need of the hour is to rise to the occasion unitedly to strive for the broadly acceptable and viable resettlement module on the basis of well founded parameters.
It said that rehabilitation in Valley should be with such safeguards where repeat of 1989-90 exodus is not possible and this can be possible only with the settlement of entire community in twin city i. e one new city adjacent to Srinagar.
Moreover there should be space for the community in the decision making body with reservation of seats in State Legislature and Parliament, it added.
Stressing on recognition of specific identity of the community JKNM also demanded establishment of Sharda University, setting up of an IT Park and corporate hub for marco economic prospects and job opportunities as the basic requirements.
The JKNM also reiterated its demand for Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) in the community and said the constitution of Truth and Reconciliation Commission to fix exact responsibility of exodus and also bridge the gulf between the two communities, passage of Shrines and Temples Bill and inclusion of displaced voters, updating of electoral rolls, deletion of M Forms and issuance of EPIC before the coming Assembly poll are some measure issues which need to be settled on priority basis.
