JKMEGA delegation calls on Veeri

SRINAGAR, Dec 3: A delegation of Jammu and Kashmir Mechanical Engineers Gradu-ates Association (JKMEGA) called on the Minister for PWD (R&B), Mechanical Engineering and Parliamentary Affairs, Abdul Rehman Veeri here today.
The delegation raised with the Minister various issues pertaining to the welfare of the Mechanical Engineering fraternity in the State.
Expressing concern over the reports regarding proposed closure of Stores and Procurement Department, the delegation apprised the Minister about the importance of the Department in the State.
The delegation said that the main objective of the Stores and Procurement Department is to consolidate the yearly requirements of the key construction material for different engineering and non-engineering departments in the State. “Once the yearly requirements are received from different departments, global/ national tenders are floated and all procurements are done through e-procurement process maintaining transparency and ensuring quality of the material as per international and national standards,” they said and added that all the materials    procured through SPD are subjected to tests and inspections in order to ensure that it meets the prescribed quality parameters.
“Besides the Central Store provides employment to number of locals including laborers for material handling and truck owners for carriage of material, etc,” they said.
The delegation also apprised the Minister about the stagnation of Mechanical Engineers   at various levels as one post of Chief Engineer, two posts of Superintending Engineers, six posts of Executive Engineer and 21 posts of AEEs are vacant at present in the Mechanical Engineering wing.
The Minister assured the delegation that the issues raised by them would be looked into at the appropriate level.
