JAMMU, Dec 3: On International Day of Persons with Disabilities, J&K Handicapped Welfare Association (JKHWA) highlighted its demands in a press conference held today at Press Club, Jammu and urged the LG of J&K Union Territory to intervene personally to redress demands of the Association.

Speaking on the occasion, president of JKHWA, Ravi Kumar said for last many years they are highlighting burning demands of persons with disabilities but no Government paid heed to them. He accused the J&K Government for their alleged neglect and non provision of the job quota guarantee to them.
Kumar said when whole world is commemorating the World Disability Day, the physically challenged persons in this part of the country are struggling for the justice. He demanded clearance of all the pending pension cases of disabled persons, enhancement of monthly pension to a minimum of Rs 8000 per month, inclusion of persons with disability for providing works under MGNERGA Scheme in Rural as well as urban areas, health cover with special package, free medical aid/treatment in all Government Hospitals and approved Nursing Homes and reservation in professional colleges.
He also stressed for setting up a advisory board for economic and social development of physically challenged persons on the pattern of SC/ST/Pahari Boards, provision of loans at low rate of interest and 50% subsidy to handicapped persons, opening of separate counters /preferential treatment to persons with disability in every Government/Semi-Government offices, 50% concession in electric/water charges to the disabled persons and declaring disabled day a holiday for all disabled persons in J&K.
Kumar urged the LG GC Murmu to intervene and concede to their long pending demands to give justice to the disable persons.
