RANCHI, Oct 25: Jharkhand High Court today granted two months of provisional bail to former Bihar Chief Minister Jagannath Mishra who was convicted by the Special CBI court in a multi-crore fodder scam case on medical grounds.
A single bench of justice R R Prasad granted the provisional bail.
The court has fixed October 30 as the next date of hearing of bail plea of former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Yadav, who is at present lodged at the Birsa Munda Central jail in Ranchi after being sentenced in the similar case.
The former Bihar CM had filed an appeal in the high court against his conviction by a special CBI court for his involvement in a fodder scam case.
On October 3, Special CBI Judge Pravas Kumar Singh through an e-court had announced the judgement in case no RC20A/96 related to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 37.70 crore from the Chaibasa (Treasury) between 1993 and 1995.
Jagannath Mishra was handed down four years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2 lakh in the case.
The former Bihar CM after hearing his conviction in this case was admitted at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) since September 30.
On October 8, 2013 the hospital authorities decided to relocate him to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
According to sources, the veteran leader is suffering from meningitis, diabetes, hypertension, prostrate gland and By-pass surgery problems.
Former MP R K Rana, who was given five years imprisonment and was imposed a fine of Rs 30 lakh in the same case, was also today granted bail by the court.
Mr Rana was granted bail on furnishing to private bonds of Rs 20,000 each.
While another accused Vidyasagar Nishad was also granted bail by the court.
The court had also asked the CBI to present lower court record in the case of former MP Jagdish Sharma’s case.
The court on September 30 had convicted 45 people, including two former CMs, Lalu Yadav and Jagannath Mishra along with other politicians, bureaucrats and suppliers in the case. (UNI)
