*Warn action against innocent nomads

JAMMU, May 20: All Parties Jammu and Kashmir Gujjar-Bakarwak Coordination Committee (JKGBCC) has supported every genuine step taken by the Government and JKUT administration to eradicate drug abuse and punish those involved illegal activities as this menace is destroying the future of youth and society.
Addressing a joint press conference here today, the leaders supported the Government for this cause but pleaded that the innocent families should not be made to suffer due to wrong identification or the misuse of authority. They said many Gujjar families are economically weak and live in temporary shelters for survival. Demolition of houses without proper verification causes immense hardships to women, children and the elderly persons, they said.
The leaders appealed to the J&K administration to ensure that strict action is taken against the proven offenders after fair investigation and adopting due legal process. They said no innocent Gujjar/nomad house and Kullah be demolished merely on the basis of suspicion or without evidence.
The community leaders urged the Government to maintain transparency, justice and humanity while continuing campaign against drug menace. They urged the police to identify the kingpin/ mafia head who is supplying the killer drug. Catch the big fish so that this menace is eradicated from the origin, they added.
Leaders of the Coordination Committee strongly condemned the recent remarks allegedly made by the certain elected MLAs against the Gujjar community. They expressed serious concern over the remarks and termed such language as highly irresponsible and unconstitutional and against the democratic values of the country. They urged the concerned authorities to take cognizance of the matter and ensure appropriate action.
Prominent among those present at the press conference included-Anwar Chowdhary (Adv) Chairman of the Committee; Ch Bashir Ahmed Noon, Ch Mushtaq Ahmed, Ch Showkat, Ch Bashir Ahmed Kohli, Ch Ishtiaq Bhatti, Ch Mohd Yousuf Majnu, Ch Hussain Ali Waffa and Adv Azam Choudhary (GUF).
