SRINAGAR, May 16: Jammu and Kashmir Electrical Employees Union (JKEEU) today alleged that its members are being harassed by the law enforcement agencies while the employees are working on the ground amind COVID-19
State President of JKEEU Muhammad Maqbool Najar said that while the employees are out, performing duties, they are being repeatedly harassed and even thrashed by the police.
“They do not consider our identity cards as curfew passes, because we belong to essential services; our people are not being allowed to move, they are being thrashed by the police,” Najar said.
He added that they have not been given the movement passes by the authorities so that the employees could move around freely. “While this, they are telling us to ensure a continuous supply of the electricity, but who is that possible when our men fail to reach their places of duty,” he asked.
The delegation of the JKEEU has even met with the MD, KPDCL who told them that the corporation will form a committee which will look into the issue of police harassment, however, they said, nothing has been done in this direction.
“Either direct police not to hamper our movement on the road, or provide us with the movement passes and ensure that our ground staff is not harassed on-road,” he said.
Appealing to the concerned officials, Najar said that they don’t want people to suffer in these trying times of COVID19. “On top of it, it is Ramzan and we want to provide uninterrupted power supply to people, but our issues should also be resolved,” he demanded.
