JAMMU, Mar 26: To address various problems being faced by Brahman community in the State, Jammu Kashmir Brahmin Mahasabha (JKBM) has been framed.
Addressing a press conference, Anil Gour, president of JKBM said that with this effort, they intend to provide the guidelines to Brahmins for the overall growth in their physical, moral and intellectual aptitude and also provide assistance to the economically weaker Brahmins to help them rise in the society.
“We also aim at promoting the religious and cultural values along with the welfare and advancement of our community”, he added.
The main objectives of JKBM are to bring all the members of Brahmin community under one roof, to provide scholarships to the needy and eligible students, to create awareness and discourage the dowry system, illiteracy, drug addiction and other social evils, to give financial and social protection to the widows, divorcees, aged and orphans, to spread awareness about the need for protection of the environment against pollution and deforestation, “Parichay Sammelan” for marriageable children, to fight for economic based reservation in the society, to fight for the implementation of the Supreme Court decision to identify the creamy layer in the existing caste based reservation and to conduct medical, health and blood donation camps.
JKBM intends to take up the case of the economically weaker sections of the society and try to ensure that the existing caste based reservation system is replaced by the reservation system for the economically downtrodden irrespective of their case, Gour added.
Among others present were Girish Sharma, general secretary, Dr Gaurong Sharma, Ram Krishan Sharma, Sudhanshu Sharma, Rohit Sharma, Sachin Sharma Dalip Baru and Som Sharma.
