JKAACL Leh celebrates its golden jubilee

Leh, Sept 26: Thriving and working hard towards preservation and promotion of rich cultural heritage of the land by applying all possible methods, J&K Academy of Arts, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) Leh is completing its 50 years this year and celebrated its glorious golden jubilee with a grand function at its office complex today.
Most eminent scholar of Ladakh Tashi Rabgyas was the chief guest on the occasion while Secretary JKAACL Srinagar Munir-ul-Islam, former Cultural Officers of the Academy Leh Scholar and writer Nawang Tsering Shakspo and Sangeet Natak Academy awardee Mipham Otsal were guests of honour.
Ven. Monks, Executive Councillors Konchok Stanzin and Mumtaz Hussain, former MP Ladakh Presidents of LGA, LBA, other religious head and Presidents of women associations, councilors, writers, scholars, poets, artists, artisans, singers, performers and fans of various art forms from all walks of the society gathered in large number to celebrate the 50 years of JKAACL Leh.
Eminent scholar and historian ‘nonagenarian’ Tashi Rabgyas (because of his age his speech was readout by eminent scholar and writer Dr Jamyang Gyaltsan) appreciated the tremendous contributions rendered by JKAACL Leh towards the arduous work of preservation and promotion of heritage of Ladakh since day one.
Secretary JKAACL Srinagar Munir-ul-Islam appreciated the department for its resourceful journey but pressed on the importance of working harder by the people of the land to preserve the unique and rich cultural heritage of Ladakh.
Scholar and writer Nawang Tsering Shakspo and Sangeet Natak Academy awardee Mipham Otsal both shared their hard but golden and constructive moments of their career. Nawang Tsering Shakspo appealed to not to lose the identity of being Ladakhi and all must consciously take crucial steps to keep the rich but the extincting culture of Ladakh intact. Echoing the views of other experts NSD aluminous Mipham Otsal appealed on the importance of making ‘Theatre in Education’ as part of school curricula.
Earlier, Special Officer for Culture-G1 Culture Academy Leh Tsewang Paljor in his welcome speech spoke about valuable contributions of the Academy and also appreciated the contributors in the form of writers, poets, artists, artisans, performers and singers of all art forms for being part of the Academy.
On the occasion, chief guest Tashi Rabgyas released special publication of K-sar saga and JKAACL Leh’s annual publications of ‘Sheraza’. Ex-employees of the Academy were also facilitated with ‘khatags’.
Ven. Monks of Hemis monastery presented a part of their ‘Chhams’ rehearsals. Similarly, auspicious performance of Achi-lhamo, short-play and folk dances of both Leh and Kargil districts were part of the inaugural function.
After the lunch, traditional ‘Manepa’ performance, seminar on contributions of JKAACL Leh in the field of preservation and up gradation of cultural heritage, language, poetic heritage, and importance of basic ethics of culture in 21st century; artists meet; film screening; musical concert and theatre performance by Theatre Group of Kargil were the main attractions.
