Jammu, Apr 9: The J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages announced State Art Awards in artist and student categories carrying cash prize of Rs. 51000/- and Rs. 10000 respectively.
The awards were recommended by a jury comprising experts in paintings and sculpture from outside the State and approved by the President Academy (Chief Minster).
The awards in Artists category went to Javaid Iqbal for his painting titled ‘Flood Fury” Acrylic on canvas and Jugal Kishore for his sculpture titled ‘Barbed wire’ Stone sculpture. In student category the award carrying cash prize of 10000 went to Ashwan Jamwal for his painting titled Éye catcher’ Graphic and Jikmat Dadul for his sculpture ”Conversation’ cement sculpture . Certificate of Merit with cash prize of Rs. 1000 in artist category went to Arshid Sualeh for ‘Nostalgia’, Smt. Milan Sharma for ”Creative world of a child’, Renu Bala for ‘childhood memories’, Rohit Verma for ‘Artist at work’ & Surya JS Babli for ‘Nari shoshan kyun’. In Student category the certificate of merit carrying cash award of 1000 each went to Jaswinder Singh for ‘Women portrait’, Khushboo Sharma for ‘life expression-I’, Mainderjeet Singh for ‘portrait’, Suhail A H Sofi for ‘The flora rise’, and Trishla Kumar for ‘Portrait’.
This year as many as 74 entries in Artist category and 33 in Student category were received from the artists/students of the State. All the exhibits were selected by the adjudicating committee for exhibition and also recommended exhibits for awards. The committee comprises experts namely Prof. Ishwer Dayal (Painting) and Prof. Mir Imtiaz (Sculpture) from Chandigarh and Delhi respectively.
