SAMBA, Apr 18: The Jammu and Kashmir Weightlifting Association inaugurated a training center at Smart Shishu Niketan Higher Secondary School, here today.
The center was sponsored by the Indian Weightlifting Association with an aim to cultivate a culture of fitness and athleticism among the youth, promoting weightlifting as a preferred sport.
Furnished with cutting-edge equipment graciously provided by the Indian Weightlifting Federation, the facilities cater to both boys and girls. The array includes Barbell Sets (190kg), Prototype for beginners, squat stands, Jerk Stands and benches ensuring aspiring weightlifters in Samba to have the tools needed for the development of their skills.
Jangveer Singh, Principal of Smart Shishu Niketan Higher Secondary School, Samba & Secretary J&K Weightlifting Association, Samba District were the chief guests on the inaugural ceremony in presence of Ashok Singh (Retired Divisional Sports Officer, Jammu) and Harbhajan Singh (President, J&K Weightlifting Association), Yudhvir Singh (General Secretary J&K Weightlifting Association), Captain Kulbir Singh (President, Samba District Weightlifting Association), Abhishek (Weightlifting Coach) besides players and parents.
Radha Rani, a local resident, lauded the initiative, highlighting its potential to empower Samba’s youth to excel at local, regional, and national levels. Prior to this, similar facilities were established in Reasi, ensuring equitable opportunities for weightlifters across districts.
