JAMMU, Mar 23: All J&K Transport Welfare Association has again warned to go on indefinite strike if their issues were not settled within couple of days.
An emergency meeting of the transporters of the State was held here today under the chairmanship of T S Wazir, Chairman, All J&K Transport Welfare Association, in which the presidents of all the Transport Unions were present besides many other transporters.
During meeting, all the transporters expressed great resentment over the attitude of State Government . They said on January 23, 2017, they had given 72-hour strike call. But the State Govt called a meeting in the Civil Secretariat on January 25, which was convened by the Chief Minister. An assurance was given in that meeting by the Chief Minister that their issues would be settled within days, but nothing was done till today. A memorandum of demands was also submitted to the Chief Minister during that meeting.
Now, from the attitude of the Government, it seems that this PDP-BJP Coalition is not serious in resolving issues of the transporters. The transporters are not in position to ply their vehicles in view of hike in the prices of petroleum products, increase in fee/ taxes, militancy and present condition in Kashmir Valley.
They said though transporters are not interested to resort to the agitational path, yet the Government is forcing them to do so. They warned the Govt to addressed their issues within days otherwise, they will be forced to go on indefinite strike.
