Talking to the media persons on the sidelines of an event organized for the release of the official trailer of the Bollywood movie “Welcome to Kashmir”, Abid said that with the aim of reviving the film tourism in J&K, the administration has taken significant steps, resulting in a surge of film and web series productions over the past year.
Highlighting the rich cinematic legacy of J&K, Secretary Tourism emphasized that the region was once a prime destination for Bollywood several decades ago.  ”We are now making efforts to revive J&K as a film tourism destination yet again, so that people, rather than going to Switzerland, France, and the Alps, come to J&K,” he said.
The burgeoning number of films, web series, and dramas shot in the region—totalling approximately 200 in the last year—stands as a promising sign of progress, he said.
He said that film tourism will play a pivotal role in the region’s revitalization plans and that to promote it extensively, the administration has established an online portal to facilitate film-related activities and created an enabling atmosphere for filmmakers.
Abid further said that J&K is all set to introduce 300 new destinations this year, offering tourists a diverse array of experiences, noting that the authorities will ensure seamless facilitation to enhance the visitor’s journey.
Regarding the G20 summit meeting, he said that the event presents a unique opportunity for J&K to showcase its tourism potential, particularly emphasizing film tourism. “By focusing on this aspect, J&K aims to send a resounding message to the world: it is a place to visit and enjoy, brimming with natural splendour.”
On the occasion, Director, Tariq Bhat along with other dignitaries unveiled the trailer of the much-anticipated film “Welcome to Kashmir”, marking a significant milestone for the local film industry.
Bhat emphasized that the movie, which is based in Kashmir and features a predominantly Kashmiri cast, raises crucial issues of the region.
Notably, he said, the film showcases a Kashmiri song, a first in Bollywood, with subtitles to enable wider appreciation and understanding.
He said that the upcoming release of “Welcome to Kashmir” on May 26 is expected to captivate audiences, both within the region and beyond, shedding light on the beauty, culture, and untold stories of Kashmir.   “This cinematic endeavour, driven by local talents, is anticipated to contribute to the promotion of J&K as a thriving film tourism destination,” he said.
