JAMMU, Aug 23: Jammu and Kashmir showcased remarkable resilience as they gained a sizeable first innings lead of 104 runs against Baroda in the Bucchi Babu Invitation Cricket Tournament, organized by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association at T1 Murugappa Stadium, Chennai.
Resuming from 48/1 on Day two, J&K’s young stars Qamran Iqbal and Musaif Ajaz forged a crucial 158-run partnership. Qamran played a patient and commanding innings, scoring 81 runs off 175 balls, hitting 8 boundaries and a six. Musaif was equally impressive, contributing 80 runs from 102 balls with 5 boundaries and 3 sixes. Their partnership laid the foundation for J&K’s total of 280 runs on a bowler-friendly pitch.
Abid Mushtaq added a valuable 49 runs, featuring 3 fours and 3 sixes, while Yawar Hassan (27) and Vanshaj Sharma (10) provided crucial support towards the end of the innings. For Baroda, Aryan Chavda was the standout bowler, claiming 5 wickets for 94 runs in 29 overs, supported by Pradop Yadav, who took 2 wickets.
At stumps, Baroda stood at 4/0 with openers Nitya Pandya (3) and Sukirt Pandey (1) at the crease. JKCA officials, including Brig Anil Gupta and Mithun Manhas, praised J&K’s performance and expressed optimism for the remainder of the match.
