J&K signs MoU with NHAI

NEW DELHI, Nov 10: Minister for Forest and Environment Ch Lal Singh today underscored the need for proper planning for optimum utilization of land to develop Green Highways.
He was speaking at the valedictory function of three day workshop on “National Convention on Innovations in Green Highways”  organized by National Green Highway mission   held here  today at Madhyanchal Bhawan, TERI University Vasant Kunj .
Union Minister for Rural Development Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water and Sanitation, Narender Singh Tomar  was the chief guest, while Ch Lal Singh was guest of honour.
The main thrust during the workshop was on Green Highways for sustainable environment and inclusive growth.
The Forest Minister highlighted the challenges faced to J&K in its process of revitalization of the degraded forests.    “For this proper planning is to be required for optimum utilization of land through plantation of trees”, he asserted.
Meanwhile, a Manual as well as a Memorandum of  Understanding was signed between NHAI and states of Haryana and J&K on the occasion.
The convention was attended by A.K.Bhatacharaya, MD NGHM,   Ranjan Chatterjee expert member NGT Delhi, Chief conservator J&K State and other officers.
The workshop also stressed upon to identify action points to take the concept of Green Highways further and extend it to Green Pathways (Roadways) which works as a platform to foster research and innovation and also augment the capacity of stakeholders through trainings.
