J&K shifting to electronic transfer of funds under IAY

SRINAGAR, Mar 19: A daylong workshop was organised by the Rural Development Department (RDD) at IMPA here today to impart training to officers regarding the use of AAWASOFT software which has been developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) to streamline the transfer of cash to beneficiaries under Indira Aawas Yojna(IAY).
Director Rural Development Department, Tasaduq Jeelani, Union Deputy Secretary, Rural Development, Rakesh Kumar,  Mohit Verma. Assistant Director, Rural Development, Ajay More, from NIC, Assistant Commissioners (Development) and Block Development Officers as well as RDD functionaries were present on the occasion.
Addressing the workshop, Mr Kumar urged the officers and officials to update the list of beneficiaries under IAY from year 2013-2014. He said the funds for the scheme will be transferred directly into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries to avoid delays and maintain transparency.
He said there were delays in allocations and withdrawals of funds under IAY which will be taken care of from the next financial year. He said the Central Government has decided to change the process of transferring funds which will be done through electronic transfer. He said a digital cheque in AAWASOFT signed by BDO will trigger transaction from the bank account to the beneficiary.
Speaking on the occasion, the Director RDD, Tasaduq Jeelani said the Government has identified almost 11,000 beneficiaries whose houses will be built under IAY this year.
Ajay More, from NIC, gave demonstration to the officials and officers, who attended the workshop, about the use of AAWASOFT which was followed up with question-answer session.
