JAMMU, Nov 3: J&K Government Retirees Pensioner Employees Association has urged the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to intervene in resolving the long-pending grievances of pensioners, daily wagers, and Government employees, citing severe financial and emotional distress due to prolonged delays in post-retirement dues.
During a meeting held under the chairmanship of Kulwant Singh Sambyal, the Association expressed serious concern over systematic irregularities in disbursing pensionary benefits such as gratuity, GP Fund, and commuted loans, with many retirees reportedly waiting over a year for their dues. Members said such delays violate the constitutional right to life and dignity under Article 21.
The Association said the situation has impacted retirees’ ability to manage essential expenses like medical treatment, education, and children’s marriage. They also highlighted that despite monthly deductions, commuted loan amounts and GPF payments remain pending.
The meeting demanded enhancement of medical allowance from Rs 300 to Rs 1,000, release of 18 months’ DA arrears, regularization of daily-rated workers under SRO-64, restoration of the old pension scheme with additional increments at ages 65, 70, and 75, and immediate release of GPF payments.
The members appealed to the UT administration and the Finance Department to resolve these burning issues at the earliest to ensure justice to thousands of retired employees who served the Government with dedication.
