In reply to a question in the Parliament, the concerned Union Minister put the figures of prisoners from Jammu and Kashmir in different jails across the country at 261. He also gave the breakup of the crimes committed against such prisoners as also those taken under preventive detention to pre-empt and abort any move to disturbing law and order and tranquillity as also any breach of peace in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir following abrogation of special status and reorganisation of the erstwhile state on August 5.
The prisoners numbering 234 from the UT are lodged in different jails of Uttar Pradesh while 27 others are in Haryana prisons. The move is aimed at lessening the pressure of more inmates on Jammu and Kashmir jails and for effective management of the said lodgement to overrule any violation of the norms . We feel that any move to prevent impending or looming violence resulting in the likelihood of loss of any precious life , should be welcome rather than criticised on ill founded premise or reasons. As Kashmir valley is fast retuning to absolute normalcy with day to day routine of the people getting on smoothly, the entire scenario was likely to get bettered.
