J&K polls: Tight security ahead of Modi’s rallies in Kathua, Rajouri tomorrow

JAMMU : Tight security arrangements have been made for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rallies to be held tomorrow in Kathua and Rajouri districts.
“In view of Mr Modi’s rallies to be held tomorrow in Kathua and Rajouri districts, security has been beefed up, while additional troops have been deployed especially, in the bordering hamlets and along the national highways of both the districts,” a senior police official here told UNI. He said as the districts are close to the borders, vigil is being maintained by the troops,while, night patrolling has also been intensified.
A total of 20 Assembly segments in Rajouri, Kathua and Jammu districts will go to polls in the fifth and last phase of Assembly elections on December 20.
Rajouri district is close to the Line of Control while the Kathua belt in Jammu region has an international border. “In Kathua, para-military troops including the Border Security Force and police are conducting joint searches and manning bordering areas for smooth conduct of the rally, to be addressed by the Prime Minister,” said an official. He maintained that special squads of security forces have been deployed in the region.
Meanwhile, in Rajouri district, state police, Army and other security agencies are on their toes in context with the security scenario and they are keeping round the clock vigil in the mountainous district.
“Troops have been put on alert and conducting surveillance along the LoC, while the state police and para-military troops are also patrolling with intensified security grid in the region,” he added.
The Prime Minister will first address the public rally in Kathua district in the morning at 1100 hrs and then fly to Rajouri to address another rally at 1330 hrs. (AGENCIES)
