NEW DELHI, May 25 : Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh said here today that Jammu & Kashmir and Northeast are managing Corona better than many States or Union Territories and this is borne out by statistical figures.
When asked by media about the recent rise in Corona positive cases, Dr Jitendra Singh said, most of these positive cases have been detected from the travellers after the resumption of the movement of persons from different parts of the country. In a way, he said, it is a matter of satisfaction that large scale tracing has been accomplished in a bid not to miss any positive case.
The point not to be missed, Dr Jitendra Singh said, is that the number of tests being conducted per day was very limited till about ten weeks ago, but now it has gone into thousands. In Jammu & Kashmir itself, as of today, as many as 10,000 tests per million are being carried out. Similarly, in Northeast too, expeditious testing is being carried out in all the eight States.
The deaths reported so far were mostly among those suffering from co-morbidities or underlying disease, he said.
The detection of Corona positive cases among those travelling from different parts of the country, said Dr Jitendra Singh, was not wholly unexpected and is being handled accordingly. For example, he said, in Northeast the State of Sikkim has remained Corona free throughout and only two days back one positive case was detected, that of a student who has returned from Delhi following the resumption of the movement .
Both in Jammu & Kashmir as well as in all the eight States of North East, said Dr Jitendra Singh, the COVID testing facility is freely available and essential equipment like PPE kits, N-95 Face marks, sanitisers etc. are available in sufficient quantity, he added.
The heartening feature, said Dr Jitendra Singh, is that there is no obvious evidence of any community spread. In future also, it can be avoided by maintaining the essential guidelines like use of face cover and social distancing.
