SRINAGAR, Oct 12: J&K has achieved a 100 percent mark in the administration of both the COVID-19 vaccination doses to the 18+ population as well as the 15-17 age group while the vaccination for the 12-14 age group is also set to achieve 100 percent coverage in days to come.
As per officials who are monitoring the COVID-19 vaccination across the Union Territory, J&K has achieved 100 percent coverage in the vaccination of the 18+ population in both first and second doses and the same achievement has been made in the 15-17 age group.
“In 12-14 years, J&K has achieved 92% in the first dose and 86% in the second dose. This coverage has led to a decrease in COVID cases across the UT as compared to the figures before vaccination,” the officials said.
As per figures, 99,39,670 first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been given to the population in the 18+ age group in J&K while at the same time, 1,03,82,773 second doses of the vaccine have been given to the said age group.
At the same time, in the 15-17 age group, the figures state that 875961 first doses have been administered which accounts for over 100 percent of the estimated population in the said age group.
Similarly, as the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, 860499 doses have been administered so far since the start of the vaccination for the 15-17 age group in J&K. It is to be noted here that the total target population in the age group has been given out as 833000 across J&K.
Further, if the district-wise COVID-19 vaccination numbers are analyzed, it comes to the fore that the two districts continue to lag which includes Srinagar, which has recorded 88 percent coverage in the 15-17 age group, and Kishtwar, which has recorded 71 percent coverage so far while as rest of the districts have recorded 100% coverage.
Concerning the 12-14 age group in J&K, 92 percent coverage has been achieved in the first dose and 86 percent in the second dose while Jammu and Kishtwar districts appear to be lagging.
Jammu has, in the age 12-14 group, recorded 65 percent coverage in dose 1 of the COVID vaccine and 47 percent in dose 2. At the same time, Kishtwar has recorded 67 percent and 61 percent coverage respectively.
In the case of the administration of precautionary COVID-19 vaccine doses, so far 1,475,779 such doses have been administered across J&K, which includes 57621 doses to Healthcare Workers, 231925 doses to Frontline Workers, 363330 doses to 60+ population and 8,22,903 doses to the 18-59 age group.
The official said that overall 2 crore 46 thousand doses have been administered, which they term as a huge number that has proven beneficial in controlling the spread of the COVID-19 infection as well as in reducing the severity in case of infected cases.
“As a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, J&K has administered 14,75,779 doses to eligible beneficiaries while adequate vaccines are being released from the Ministry as per the demand from J&K,” the officials said.
