J&K Kissan Tehreek protests against anti-farmer policies, inflation

Srinagar, Aug 9: The J&K Kissan Tehreek (JKKT) today held a protest demonstration against several laws enacted by the Government including that of the farm laws implemented and urged the Government to take measures to curb inflation.
The protest was led by Ghulam Nabi Malik, General Secretary JKKT who said that the farmers, youngsters and those who are unemployed including Asha workers, Anganwadis are facing multiple issues due to the bad policies of the Government.
“We are today holding the protest across the country and with that, the people across Kashmir are also up against the wrong policies of Government,” he said.
Malik said that they demand that the Government should talk to the protesting farmers and should also roll back the recent changes that have been made in the laws.
He said that with the implementation of the farm laws, the land, lives and the production of the farmers have been put at risk and the conditions for the farmers have become hostile.
“We demand that the amendments in the electricity privatization bill should be repealed as well as the changes made in the labour laws,” he said.
The protestors also demanded the scrapping of anti-worker labour and impressed on the need of ensuring MSP for all crops with guaranteed procurement.
They also demanded immediate rollback of steep price rise in essential commodities such as petrol, diesel, gas and cooking oil.
JKKT said that there is a need to ensure that there are no retrenchment or wage cuts as well as compensation to the job and wage loss during the pandemic.
“Register all migrant and unorganised sector workers, create more jobs and fill up all vacancies in government and public sector,” they said.
The protestors also demanded Minimum Wages and social security and pension to all workers including casual, contract, scheme workers and unorganized workers.
