SRINAGAR, Sept 25: J&K Kissan Tehreek today staged a massive protest demonstration against what they said as anti-farmer bills and electricity act amendments.
The members of the J&K Kissan Tehreek said that they are protesting against the anti-farmer policies of the central Government led by the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP).
They said that these bills, while these should have been in the favour of the farmers, are aimed at helping the corporate agri-businesses.
Talking to the media persons, General Secretary of Kisan Tehreek Ghulam Nabi Malik said that these anti-farmer bills are aimed at changing the fabric of the country’s agricultural economy to benefit corporate-traders nexus.
He said that these three legislations will finish off the Mandis. “These will grant corporates the freedom of hoarding and black-marketing,” he added.
He said that had the ordinance been in favour of the farmers, “the Government would not have run away from debate and discussion, rather, these laws have been passed unconstitutionally; the government would have discussed and revealed the contents of the bill,” he added.
He lamented that these Acts will mean total backtracking of the Government from procurement, “it will put the farmers at the mercy of corporates,” he said.
He also said that the Government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat campaign has given nothing to the farmers of the country.
He said that the crop insurance should be made compulsory for the sector with minimum possible premium and also there is a need of restarting the market intervention scheme so that the farmers who have suffered losses are provided with some relief in the times of despair.
Those who were present at the protest demonstration include Mohamad Yousuf Dar, Zahoor Ahmad Rather, Mohamad Afzal Parry, Ghulam Mohamad Rather and Ghulam Ahmad Ganie Kisan.
