SRINAGAR, Aug 30: The 42nd meeting of the Board of Directors of Jammu and Kashmir Housing Board was held here today under the chairmanship of Minister for Housing, Raman Bhalla.
The Board stressed the need for developing more residential colonies in the new areas for accommodating the houseless people. The Directors laid stress on evolving innovative measures to further tone up the functioning to make it a competitive and profit earning organization as per its mandate. The Board impressed upon the functionaries of the Housing Board to facelift and maintain its assets properly and also to step up efforts to improve the revenue generation.
The Board gave its nod to some new initiatives of the Housing Board which include development of colonies at Dhani Dhar Rajouri, Battal Wallian, Udhampur, Meen Charkan in Samba, Kathua and Mujgund in Srinagar. The Board also gave its go ahead to Housing Board for construction of Recreation Centre at Channi Himmat Green Belt, authorized to acquire land through private negotiations for developing new colonies, allowing it to enter into joint venture partnerships, empowering it to act as regulatory authority to ensure planned housing colonies by the private players in the State. These new initiatives will help the organization to improve its financial health.
The Board directed the Managing Director to make optimum use of the manpower to achieve tangible results. The Board opined that the Housing Board organization has been mandated to develop colonies for providing residential shelters to the houseless people on cheaper rates and it must fulfill its social obligation and help the needy in having their own houses. The meeting directed the organization to chalk out a well-knit and multi-pronged strategy for the development of new colonies after formulating techno-feasible schemes laid down in the Housing Act.
Principal Secretary Planning & Development, B.R.Sharma, Principal Secretary Finance, B.B.Vyas, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Shantmanu, Chief Financial Consultant, Ravi Magotra, Chief Town Planner, Kashmir, Iftikar Hakim, Chief Town Planner, Jammu, Surinder Sharma (all Directors), Additional Secretary Housing & Urban Development, Qazi Sarwar, Additional Secretary PWD, Shabnam Kamili, Managing Director, J&K Housing Board (Member Secretary), Kiran Wattal and Secretary Housing Board, Ram Paul Sharma were present in the meeting.
