J&K gets Best Practices Award for Watershed Management

NEW DELHI, Feb 20:  Jammu and Kashmir Integrated Watershed Management Programme has bagged Best Practices Award at national level.
The award was presented by the Union Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Rao Varinderjeet Singh during a function organized by DoLR, GoI at SCOPE Complex, New Delhi.
The award was received by Shafaat Noor Barlas, Secretary RDD, who is also chairman of the SLNA for IWMP in J&K State. He was accompanied by Dr D H Shah, CEO of SLNA and Dr G H Naqash and G M Dar, State level technical experts.
The DoLR had sought details of innovative practices introduced by different State under IWMP throughout the country. In response to the communication, the JKSLNA had also submitted the innovative technique of lining ponds/ water storage tanks with Geo-membrance for ensuring prolonged water storage in the earthern tanks. All the states were asked to make presentation in a national level workshop at Banglore wherein  J&K was selected for award under `Best Practices’.
The technique introduced by IWMP of J&K State has now been listed as one of the best practices under IWMP in India.
