J&K crosses Red Zone in rural sanitation, achieves 48% coverage

JAMMU, Jan 24: The State of Jammu and Kashmir has crossed the Red Zone mark by achieving more than 40 percent coverage with regard to rural sanitation under the Swachh Bharat Mission.
The achievement was acknowledged by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Government of India, during National Consultation on Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), organized by the ministry in collaboration with World Bank Group, at Gurugram, Haryana, wherein representatives of all States participated along with present point presentation and Draft Plan for the year 2018-19.
Ritu Mahajan, Deputy Director Rural Sanitation Jammu, represented J&K State and gave a detailed report on working of SBM (G) in the State as well as IEC Plan to the tune of approximately Rs 50 crores for the year 2018-19.
Presentation of J&K State was adjudged as one of the best presentations among the participating States. The Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, GoI, appreciated the achievements made by the State of Jammu and Kashmir during the last three months. The Ministry assured that all the necessary assistance shall be made available to the State of J&K.
The Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, J&K, has attributed the achievement to the Minister concerned, Abdul Haq Khan,  Commissioner Secretary Nirmal Sharma and  Mission Director Rural Sanitation, J&K, Mohammad Nazir Sheikh, who guided and made efforts to achieve the target.
The J&K State achieved 48 percent mark as on date.
