JAMMU, Dec 10: JK Body Building Association took out anti-drugs awareness rally
Chairman of JK Body Building Association, former Minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla led the rally which started from Rehari Chungi and passed through various bazaars of city and culminated at Bahu Plaza, here.
Rajesh Dutta, General Secretary J&K Bodybuilding Association on the occasion said that ace skater turned bodybuilder Dhananjay Singh Charak created history by making thrilling entry in top five finalists in the 8th World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship held at Pattaya City in Thailand recently. Fifty six countries across the World participated in this championship, wherein Dhananjay kept the National Flag high by being ranked 4th. Charak will be an inspiration for the budding sportspersons of Jammu and Kashmir, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Bhalla said that preventing or delaying use of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco among adolescents is a critical and national public health goal. The simplest and most cost-effective way to lower the human and societal costs of drug abuse is to prevent it in the first place.
“Preventing children from using drugs, alcohol, and tobacco will help safeguard our society. Preventing drug abuse is one of the best investments we can make in our country’s future. Doing so is preferable to dealing with the consequences of drug abuse through law enforcement or drug treatment”, he added.
Former Minister further stated that while all parents are critical influencers of children, parents of children aged eight to twelve are especially influential. Children whose parent’s abuse alcohol or other drugs face heightened risks of developing substance-abuse problems themselves”, Bhalla added.
A clamp down on the internal supply conduits especially in relation to medical opiates is necessary, he said, adding that the drug controlling agencies of the State Government need to step up their monitoring and control activities with maximum punishment to offenders.
