Srinagar, Nov 9: A Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militant was killed and a policeman injured in an encounter between militants and security forces in Dar Ganie-Gund area of Tral in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district today.
Security forces including Army’s 42 RR, 180 Battalion of CRPF and SOG of police cordoned off Darganie-Gund area in Tral after inputs about presence of militants in the area. A policeman was also injured during exchange of firing. However, he is stable.
The militant was hiding in a house and he opened fire on troops when he was trapped and later he came out and took shelter behind a wall of stones. However, he was later killed after a fierce gun battle.
A police spokesman said here that incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. ” From the incriminating materials recovered, it is learnt that the killed militant is a Pakistani namely Anwar, who was affiliated with JeM”, he said.
“Moreover, one policeman also sustained minor injuries and was evacuated to hospital for medical attention. He is stated to be stable. Police has registered a case and initiated investigation in the instant matter”, the spokesman said.
Police requested the citizens not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials. “People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials if any”, the spokesman added.
Meanwhile, Indian and Pakistani troops exchanged fire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Tangdhar sector of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district today.
An official said that Pakistani troops targeted Indian Army posts at Sadpora, Dhani and Amru areas in Tangdhar around 3:30 pm. The Army retaliated effectively and strongly. However, there was no report of any casualties on either side in the exchange of fire.
