KULGAM, Aug 7: Janata Dal-United (JDU) President for Jammu and Kashmir, GM Shaheen today appealed to the government of India to release the stone-pelters and political prisoners in Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing a public gathering, Shaheen appealed to the government to revoke cases against Kashmiri youth arrested on charges of stone-pelting, citing the need for reconciliation and rehabilitation.
He also urged the government to release all political prisoners languishing in different jails, emphasizing the importance of political freedom and human rights.
“Hundreds of youth have been languishing in jails and their careers have been ruined. Government of India must show a big heart and give general amnesty not only to these alleged stone pelters but also to the political prisoners,” he said.
He also sought relief for KCC (Kisan Credit Card) loanees, who have secured loans in Kashmir, highlighting the economic struggles faced by the people in the region.
Shaheen urged the youth to participate in the upcoming assembly elections in large numbers, stressing the importance of democratic engagement and voting rights.
