JDU demands direct train services from Srinagar to Jammu, Delhi

JAMMU, Jan 11: Janta Dal United (JDU), Jammu and Kashmir, has criticized the Centre for the continued delay in providing direct train services from Srinagar to Jammu and Delhi, calling it a long-pending and urgent public need.
Party president GM Shaheen said the absence of direct rail connectivity has forced people to rely on costly and unsafe road travel, causing hardships to students, patients, workers and tourists.
He said that despite repeated assurances over the years, the people of Jammu and Kashmir are still waiting for basic and affordable rail connectivity.
Shaheen added that direct train services are not a luxury but a necessity for employment generation, economic revival and strengthening tourism in the region.
Warning the Government of India, the JDU leader said any further delay would amount to injustice to the people of the region.
He said the party would intensify democratic and political pressure to ensure that the long-pending demand is fulfilled in the larger public interest.
