JDC urges Vohra to ensure resumption of work on Artificial Lake Project

JAMMU, July 29: Astonished over the deliberately skipping even a reference to the completion of the Artificial Lake Project on Tawi river during the review meeting of Jammu District Development Board chaired by Governor NN Vohra, Jammu Development Council (JDC) has termed it as sheer injustice with Jammu and appealed the Governor to ensure resumption of the  stalled project.
Addressing the media persons, JDC president, Inderjeet Khajuria, expressed his annoyance and displeasure over the way Jammu MPs, MLAs and MLCs ignored a reference to the much talked Artificial Lake Project on Tawi river as if the project stands abandoned.
Their silence over the fate of the lake project is really a criminal slap on the face of innocent Jammuites especially under the facts that the then Irrigation and Flood Control Minister Sham Lal Choudhary had announced the completion of the project within two months as the funds to the tune of 83 crore stood arranged for the same .
Khajuria made fervent appeal to the Governor to kindly intervene personally as more than 80 % work on the project has already been completed. Except for the minor repairs to the completed Barrage and construction of 17 diversion channels for Nallahs to keep away dirty water and municipal waste away from neat lake waters, the lake is already complete.
“Need of the hour is to bring Jammu Tourism and its dwindling economy back on rails which got a great setback due to numerous reasons one being the Rail link extension to Katra and the continuous unrest and turmoil in the Valley besides failing of the Amarnath Yatras in the past years”, he said, adding, the Governor has always been a ray of hope for Jammuites in the past as well and it will be a personal favour if the Lake project is gifted to Jammu within the current year as not much has been left to complete and commission the same.
