JAMMU, Oct 27: A meeting of Jammu Development Council (JDC) was convened to discuss unprovoked ceasefire violations by Pakistani rangers on the International Border and Line of Control in Jammu, Kathua, Samba and Poonch districts, causing huge loss of lives, livestock, crops and property.
While addressing the meeting, the Council president, Inderjeet Khajuria accused the Pakistan for firing heavy motor shelling at different places in Jammu province, which has caused great loss of life and property, besides dislocation and migration of more than 35000 border dwellers, which are presently lodged in different relief camps for their safety.
He said that Pakistan is habitual offender of violating the ceasefire agreement-2003 but this time it has crossed all the limits and continuously fired heavy motor shelling almost all along the Jammu borders including LoC.
Counting the miseries being faced by the border residents since 1947, Khajuria said that they are living under huge fear-psychosis and confronting with the day-to-day firing. He said that Government till today had not given serious thinking to the problems of border residents, which is cause of worry and requires immediate solution to mitigate their problem once for all.
Making the suggestion to tackle the problem, he said the Government should provide permanent alternate residential accommodation at safe places in the shape of 5 marlas plot to each family with financial assistance to construct two rooms set, so that in the time of skirmishes they can save their lives.
He also asked the Government to provide adequate compensation for the loss of cattle, damaged to buildings and the standing crops, besides insurance cover to all the border residents including their lives, property, crops and cattle.
