JAMMU, Oct 6: In a day long operation, the Jammu Development Authority (JDA) sealed 61 shops despite tough resistance from the defaulters.
As per the details, JDA has launched the crackdown on the defaulters and got the survey completed wherein chronic rent defaulters have been identified who owe lakhs of rupees as outstanding rent and have also violated the terms and conditions of lease deed. As a sequel to it, the Vice Chairman JDA Rajesh Kumar Shavan ordered for the closure of defaulting establishments and the team of khilafwarzi section headed by Tehsildar Farooq Khan and assisted by Chief Khilafwarzi Officer Narinder Singh sealed around 59 shops at Ware House.

Majority of shops were being misused in illegal manner, without paying any rent to the JDA. In certain cases the monthly rent of Rs 37 per shop fixed has not been revised due to the deep rooted nexus and even this petty amount has not been paid to the JDA by the shopkeepers.
In a statement, the Vice Chairman said that certain shopkeepers who were supposed to vacate the shops at Nehru Market owing to their shifting and allotment at Narwal Bus Stand have been illegally allowed to have unauthorized possession at Ware House. He said that some of the shopkeepers have sold the JDA property at their own by taking crores of rupees without the consent and approval of JDA. Thus the private persons have been allowed to transact business over JDA property without seeking any permission or paying the requisite fee.
Tehsildar JDA Zone A, Kusum Chib also sealed two shops in her jurisdiction one belonging to Ashok Balgotra at Grid Station Janipur and another that of Pankaj Kumar at City Commercial Complex. The entire operation stands carried out as off-shoot of operation “Flash Out” to drive out illegal occupants and cleanse the premises as part of “Swacch Bharat Mission”.
