JAMMU, Oct 29: Jammu Development Authority (JDA) today launched anti-encroachment drive at Transport Nagar and seized huge quantity of scrap, which was dumped illegally by the lessees of the bays.
The drive was necessitated as due to dumping of scrap and other material by the lessees there was hardly any space left for the movement of vehicles in majority of the yards. This was also creating problems for the JDA to carry out developmental activities in the yards.
On the directions of Vice-Chairperson, Sushma Chauhan, the JDA had issued notices to all the lessees of the bays to remote scrap on their own but majority of them didn’t pay any heed to the notice prompting JDA to launch anti-encroachment drive.
Police personnel in large number were deployed on the request of VC JDA to ensure that there was no resistance from the lessees and the day long anti-encroachment drive passed off peacefully.
Vice-Chairperson of JDA personally visited the area during the anti-encroachment operation in order to boost the morale of the staff and effectively tackle any resistance from the violators.
When contacted, she said that JDA wanted to carry out some developmental activities in all the 11 yards of the Transport Nagar but the encroachment created obstacles as such anti-encroachment drive was launched in the area. “The drive will continue till all the 11 yards are covered”, she added.
She further said that after anti-encroachment drive, JDA would start verifying the lease related documents in order to ensure that only the genuine lessees work in Transport Nagar and those carrying out different operations illegally would be thrown out.
