JCO killed in firing along LoC in Poonch: Defence Ministry

JAMMU : A Junior Commissioner Officer was killed in  firing this afternoon along the Line of Control in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, a defence ministry official said.
A few rounds were fired at around 1300 hrs through the dense forests from across the LoC using Pika, RPG and UBGL in Saujiyan area of Mandi sector in Poonch, S N Acharya-Jammu based officiating Public Relations Officer, Ministry of Defence, told reporters.
There was calibrated retaliation by the Indian troops, he said adding that one JCO hit by shrapnel in the firing succumbed to injuries.
Mr Acharya said it is yet being ascertained whether it was militant fire or a ceasefire violation.
The spokesman said the area has been cordoned off and alert has been sounded while searches are being conducted in the region. (AGENCIES)
