JAMMU : Security forces today busted a militant hideout and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition including a 10-kg explosive in mountainous Reasi district.
“Based on specific inputs, the Rashtriya Rifle troops along with police this evening launched a search operation in Jamaslan village of Mahore sub division in Reasi district and busted a militant hideout,” an official spokesman here said.
He said during searches, five hand grenades, five UBGL grenades, a 10-kg explosive, 40 rounds of AK-47 ammunition and a country made rifle were recovered from the hideout.
“The items were found wrapped in a polythene sheet buried one feet under the ground and were detected with the help of Deep Search Metal Detector,” the spokesman said, adding that the cache as per sources was buried by local militants operating in the region during the year 2004 and 2005 and was to be used against the security forces.
The explosives and grenades were destroyed on ground by blowing them off as they could have been detrimental to the security of the local populace, he added. (AGENCIES)
