JCCI members meet CM, FM over GST issue

JAMMU, June 14: A delegation of Jammu Chamber of Commerce  and Industries (JCCI) led by its president, Rakesh Gupta called on the  Chief Minister  and Finance Minister at  Srinagar today and discussed  the implementation of GST in the State.
The Chief Minister assured the Chamber delegation that special powers to tax/ review shall be retained by the State so that the interests of the business people in the State could be safeguarded.
Later,  the Jammu Chamber team had meeting with the president Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industries and his office bearers and discussed the issue of GST threadbare. Both Chambers arrived at the consensus that implementation of GST was not a problem but at the same time, special powers with the Government of J&K to tax / review should not be surrendered to the GST council.
Both the Chambers then had a meeting with Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu where many other prominent business associations from Kashmir were also present and expressed concern regarding GST. The Finance Minister assured both the Chambers and others present that GST shall be implemented the way it suits the State and asked for suggestions from the Chambers regarding the smooth implementation of GST.
The JCCI suggested that Government should ensure better facilities for Internet connectivity throughout the State.   It also stressed that special powers to impose entry tax, allow remission to Industry, announcement of amnesties and also provision to file revised returns under special conditions be retained. It was also recommend that entry tax at Lakhanpur check post on any purchases made by Individuals not as business house be imposed as is being done presently in order to stop loss of sales/ state taxes.
JCCI also request that the present facility of “Transit Memo” being allowed by the Commercial Tax Department for movement of goods for Intra-State Trade should continue under GST regime also and  walnuts being locally produced in our State should be continued to be taxed at zero % under GST regime as is being taxed at zero % under VAT regime.
Senior vice president  Rajesh Gupta, Junior vice president Rajiv Gupta, secretary general Manish Gupta, secretary Gaurav Gupta and treasurer Ashu Gupta also accompanied.
