WAKNAGHAT, Jan 29: A one-day webinar on `Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOF): An Insight’ was held today at Jaypee University of Information Technology, Waknaghat, Solan, Himachal Pradesh.
The webinar was organized by the Centre of Excellence in Structural Engineering and Disaster Management, JUIT. It was attended by beneficiaries from industry and academia, both domestic and foreign.
The webinar was coordinated by Prof Ashish Kumar, Head, Department of Civil Engineering, JUIT Waknaghat along with Dr Sugandha Singh, Assistant Professor, Civil Engineering, JUIT Waknaghat.
The primary focus of the webinar was to introduce the concept of Glacial Lake Outburst Floods which often occur in hilly areas such as Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
The presenter, Narendra Kumar Yadav, Chief Engineer (Retd), Uttarakhand Irrigation Department, acquainted the participants with the case studies as observed from sites of such occurrence in Uttarakhand.
