JAMMU, May 25: Socio-political activist, Jayesh Gupta has raised concern over water and power crisis across Jammu region during these hot summer days and flayed the administration for leaving the public to suffer in scorching conditions.
Addressing a press conference here today, Gupta said that with mercury breaching the 40°C mark, every section of society is reeling under relentless power cuts and erratic water supply.
He claimed government’s lack of preparedness as the reason behind public sufferings in these hot days.
“There are no functional control rooms and nodal officers have not been appointed at district level to respond to public grievances,” Gupta maintained adding: “Water shortage has forced many residents to rely on private water tankers, which charge exorbitant rates, further burdening the common man.”
He also expressed disappointment over the stagnation of ambitious Chenab Water Scheme, which was projected as a sustainable solution to the region’s water woes.
“It’s time the administration should adopt a holistic and sustainable approach to tackle the crisis,” he asserted.
