Jawan killed, intrusion bid foiled

JAMMU, Aug 30: An Army jawan was killed and another injured as troops foiled infiltration attempt by the militants along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jogma area of Akhnoor sector this afternoon.
Official sources said troops observed movement of three militants trying to infiltrate into the Indian territory from the LoC in forward area of Jogma along the LoC in Akhnoor sector at 12.30 pm today.
Alert troops opened firing, leading to an encounter in which one Army jawans was killed and another injured.
However, retaliation by the troops forced the militants to retreat, sources said.
The jawan, who attained martyrdom in the exchange of firing, has been identified as Rajendra Singh of Churoo, Rajasthan. His body will be sent to his native town tomorrow morning with full military honours.
The injured jawan has been hospitalized.
Troops have been conducting searches in Jogma and surrounding areas of LoC.
