SRINAGAR, Mar 9: A soldier was seriously injured last night after India and Pakistan exchanged fire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Sources said that the Indo-Pak troops exchanged fire along the LoC at Churanda area of Uri sector late last night.
A soldier received a sniper fire in his right leg and has been airlifted to Army’s 92 Base Hospital Badamibagh, Srinagar for treatment. He has been identified as Paramjeet Singh of 17 JAT and is being treated upon in the military hospital.
Srinagar based Defence spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia said: “Unprovoked ceasefire violation took place by Pakistan in Uri sector today morning. One soldier was injured and evacuated to 92 Base Hospital. Our troops retaliated appropriately.”
Meanwhile, Pakistani troops also resorted to mortar shelling and firing at Digwar and Malti sub sectors in Poonch district at 12.30 am targeting forward Army posts and civilian population.
The Indian side retaliated effectively, sources said, adding that exchange of mortar shelling continued till 11 am today.
However, there were no reports of any casualties or damage on the Indian side in Pakistani shelling and firing.
