Javaid Rahi awarded for documenting Gujjar culture of J&K

JAMMU, June 20: Noted tribal researcher Dr Javaid Rahi was conferred with the prestigious ‘Jagom Memorial National Award’ for his distinguished services in the field of preservation and documentation of intangible tribal folk cultural heritage of Gujjars -Bakarwals of Jammu and Kashmir.
Instituted in 1991, by Snehil- an Utter Pradesh-based national Art organization working for the conservation of cultural properties, the awards were given to personalities of national repute to recognize their services in each field.
This year, the award presentation ceremony was held at Jagom Bhawan, Rampur, Saharanpur and a large number people also witnessed the event online. National President of Snehil Sanstha Dr Mamta Singh presented the awards.
Those who win awards include Vice Chancellor Doon University Surekha Dangwal (Education); Dr Javaid Rahi, (preservation and documentation of intangible tribal folk cultural heritage of Gujjars- Bakarwals of Jammu and Kashmir); Vice Chairman Lalit Kala Akademi, Dr Nand Lal Thakur (Art); Dr Shashi Jha (Painting); Surendra Chauhan, (Journalism) and others.
