Jats threaten to launch agitation over OBC status in J&K

AKHNOOR, June 7: Choudhary Manmohan Singh, President All India Jat Maha Sabha (AIJMS), Jammu and Kashmir, warned that the Jat community will start an agitation, if notification on Other Backward Classes (OBC) status shall not be issued soon.
He said it is really unfortunate that despite announcing, the Government has not yet issued the desired notification to grant the OBC status to the Jat community in J&K.
He was addressing a meeting organized by Kuldeep Kour, tehsil president AIJMS Akhnoor. Earlier, Ch Manmohan along with other senior members of AIJMS felicitated Major Abhinandan Singh for clearing the prestigious Civil Services examination.
Ch Manmohan Singh also raised the issue of denying the ownership rights of the land which is in possession of Jat Community members for the last more than 60 years. He asked the Government to work towards finding a solution to this issue and ensure that the land rights of the Jat Community are protected.
Singh also appealed to the Jat community not to sell their land claiming that in that case their identity as farmers will be lost. He urged the Jat community to continue their work as farmers and maintain their crucial role in the growth and development of the country’s agricultural sector.
Brigadier Pawan Sauntra, Vice President AIJMS laid stress on educating children of Jat Community. “Education helps to create responsible citizens who can contribute positively to their communities. It also provides the foundation for economic development, as educated individuals are better equipped to find employment or start their own businesses. Therefore, it is important for the Jat community to prioritize education for their children,” he added.
Meanwhile, Onkar Choudhary (retd.), Joint Director Agriculture was unanimously nominated as Coordinator of Akhnoor, Jourian and Khour tehsils.
Kuldeep Kour also raised problems being faced by the members of Jat Community. She asked the community members to come forward and strengthen the hands of Ch Manmohan Singh who is working day and night for the welfare of community.
Among others who were present include Ch Jung Bahadur, Tarsem Choudhary, Pardeep Choudhary, Ankush Choudhary, Surinder Choudhary and Narayan Choudhary.
