JAMMU, Aug 22: All India Jat Maha Sabha (AIJMS) president and former Mayor, Chaudhary Manmohan Singh urged the Government to grant OBC status to the community members before holding Assembly elections in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir.
Ch Manmohan Singh reiterated this demand while chairing a general body meeting of the Jat Maha Sabha in Jammu, wherein all the District and Tehsil presidents participated.
In the meeting, all 256 members of the Sabha from across our UT vowed to strengthen the arms of Ch Manmohan Singh because of his extraordinary contribution towards the community. He is confident with his efforts that the demand for OBC status will get through sooner than later.
The former Mayor said that earlier Article 370 was cited as the hurdle in conferring OBC status to the Jat community but now with the abrogation of Article 370, the Union Government is adopting a dilly-dallying attitude on this very significant issue concerning the Jats.
Ch Manmohan Singh also raised serious concern over dilly-dally tactics adopted by the Government for not providing ownership rights of land to the Jat community in possession of custodian land for the last more than 50 years. He asked the Sabha members to make the community aware about the rights of the community. He cautioned everyone to be ready for agitation too when asked upon. He sought support of youth and women to press to get demands fulfilled.
Seeking support of the entire Jat Biradari especially womenfolk in getting OBC status, Ch Manmohan Singh informed that a grand women ‘Sammelan’ will be organized in the first week of October.
The president also mentioned that at the end of October this year, a convention will be organized in Mendhar on the request of community members of the area. Besides, a youth convention will also be organized in the month of December to unite, ignite and boost their morale.
Ch Manmohan Singh also said that the Jat Maha Sabha will stand with the community members who are facing hardships due to several reasons. He asked the Sabha members to visit far flung and remote areas and take stock of people’s issues and address them on priority.
Sahil Choudhary, in his address, said that the youth of Jat community are playing a vital role in guarding the borders. However, he urged youth to make their efforts visible in Government departments, especially the governance.
