JAMMU, Jan 18: Former MLA Jammu East, Rajesh Gupta has expressed serious concern over illegal mining in Tawi river. Rajesh Gupta said that illegal mining is going on despite the High Court orders to the concerned departments for its complete ban.
Illegal mining on the Tawi river bed is causing serious damage to the ecology of the river and also to the eco system in the area, he said in a statement issued here, today.
Rajesh Gupta said that a new threat has emerged to the recently erected tower of the prestigious Gondola Project. Tower No.4 that is erected in the vicinity of the Tawi tiver to support the ropeway is under direct threat due to the extraction of sand around it. He said that if the activity continues unabated there is an imminent danger that the tower may collapse causing huge disaster. The Gondola Project was conceived as a dream project for the Jammu city and once operational would enhance the tourism potential of the Jammu city and also would be a big attraction for the local populace.
Rajesh Gupta said that the concerned authorities must take immediate cognizance of the matter and completely ban the activities of the sand mafia.
