JAMMU, July 26: A 25-year-old woman from Jammu’s Paloura area, who was pursuing Bachelor in Dental Surgery (BDS) from a private college in Udaipur area of Rajasthan, ended her life by hanging, alleging torture by her faculty members.
Shweta Singh daughter of Balwant Singh, originally from Doda, and currently residing at Sarika Vihar area of Paloura, was found hanging within the hostel room of Pacific Dental College and Hospital at Debari near Udaipur area.
As per reports, her roommates noticed herself hanging from the ceiling fan and accordingly informed the police, who shifted her to a hospital, where doctors declared her as dead on arrival.
Only daughter of Police Constable Balwant Singh, who is currently posted in Kashmir, Shweta, reports said, also left a suicide note in her hostel room, which blamed her teachers, “Nany ma’am” and “Bhagwat sir”, for her death.
Although the duo has been expelled by the college management, several other students resorted to a demonstration on Friday and alleged systematic harassment by college faculty and staff, which included failing students arbitrarily and deliberately delaying their examination.
They alleged that the administration regularly demanded money for examinations and attendance, particularly targeting students from less privileged backgrounds.
As per sources, the body of the woman is expected to reach Jammu by tomorrow morning.
