JAMMU, Aug 21: Former minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla today alleged that Jammu people are upset over BJP’s failure to address key issues of the region.
“Jammu voted overwhelmingly in support of BJP party. People of the region who complain of “neglect” were hopeful that the party would restore their dignity and honour. But more than two and half years of the Government, the BJP has lost the trust of the people by ignoring sentiments and aspirations of people of Jammu,” said Bhalla while addressing public meetings at Narwal, Nanak Nagar and Qasim Nagar today.
The Congress leader alleged that both the parties are befooling the people of this State. The “Agenda for the Alliance”, released on the very first day of the formation of the PDP-BJP coalition in J&K, did not cover all issues related to Jammu region. The people of Jammu province and the Ladakh region felt a surge of immense hope and expected the era of marginalization, discrimination, humiliation to be finally over. However, this has not happened and the result has been widespread disappointment and disenchantment across the Jammu province. Jammu had sent 25 BJP MLAs to the Legislative Assembly but all of them seem to have gone in forgetfulness and look least interested in raising the issues which turn the skin of a common man in Jammu.
Bhalla maintained that BJP after coming into the power has lost the plot and its ministers are busy reaping the benefits of power. They seem unaware about the problems being confronted by the people in Jammu region. This Govt has courted one controversy after the other since day one and governance has taken a back seat. Anger is brewing, especially in Jammu, over the BJP’s lack of response to burning issues of people of Jammu.
He said the condition of roads in rural areas is terrible. Deep fissures define main roads, lanes and by lanes or across the length and breadth of the road feeder system in Jammu. He said that the Government apathy towards the issues of border area inhabitants, PoJK migrants, West Pak refugees, power and water crisis, tourism, unemployment issue, delimitation exercise to end regional bias besides other Jammu related issues had created a lot of resentment amongst the people of Jammu.
